About NestEgg
NestEgg is built by MiCAD — experienced Danish private investors who wanted one honest answer to a household’s biggest financial question: when can we stop, and what can we spend per month? The app was built for our own household first and is used daily on real numbers.
Why does it exist?
Because the Danish pension picture is genuinely hard: PAL tax, the aktiesparekonto, the share and capital income brackets, the state pension taper, and four pension types each with their own rules. The tools we could find simplified the tax away or calculated one person at a time. NestEgg calculates the Danish reality all the way through — for the whole household.
The principles
- Honest numbers over pretty numbers: the app shows a blank when data is missing and never invents values.
- The Danish reality is the core: tax and pension types are modelled on the actual rules — approximations are documented as approximations.
- The household is the unit: two people, each with their own tax and timelines, one shared overview.
- Decision support, not paternalism: the app shows consequences and suggests — your own choices are never moved.
- Private by design: self-hosted, wealth data never leaves the house. Integrations fetch, they do not share.
How the rates are maintained
The calculations follow the 2026 rules, validated against the Danish Ministry of Taxation’s official calculation sheets. Rates and thresholds change yearly and are updated as the new figures are published.
